Success in the South Leinster Schools Athletics Championships. Three first year girls travelled to Waterford on Thursday 2nd May to compete in the South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships. Aoibhinn Murray, Keila Moore and Aoife Thompson faced tough competition in their respective events. The girls competed in the long jump, shot putt, discus and the 100m. There was very stiff competition in the 100m with Keila Moore narrowly missing out on qualification for the final. Aoibhinn Murray had a great run too but unfortunately didn't progress further. Aoibhinn also competed in the long jump. It was in the throws events that the girls brought home the medals. Keila Moore won gold in the shot putt with a throw of 7.79m. Aoife Thompson won gold in the discus with a throw of 20.13m. Keila and Aoife now go forward to the Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships in Morton Stadium in Santry on 15th May. Well done to all three girls and best of luck to Keila and Aoife in Santry in two weeks time.
