Members of 'Knitting Club' at Àrdscoil RathIomghàin have had great fun preparing some very unique and customised Easter Treats. Teachers and students alike have been very impressed with their final products and are eager to move onto our new project next term. We will be knitting and crocheting blankets for internally displaced children and babies in Syria and hope to have a shipment ready by the end of 2018.
At Àrdscoil RathIomghàin, teacher and student wellbeing is always in firm focus. Organisers of our Knitting Club are acutely aware of the calming nature of knitting and the contribution this activity can offer to developing a greater sense of wellbeing in our school community. Knitting club offers an alternative to the busy lunchtime hustle and bustle on our corridors. It is a quiet oasis for students seeking a sense of calm in their busy day.
An inspirational verse at the core of our club is :
"And when life became too frenzied
they took up their knitting
and breathed a while
to the rhythm of the
stitches and rows until
their smiles returned
and their minds were calm"
