I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to parents and guardians of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. My name is Nichola Horn and recently I was appointed to the role of Home School Community Liaison Coordinator for the school. As many of you are aware I have been teaching Music in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain since 2004 and am due to be in this role for the next five years. Since September I have had some coffee Meet and Greets for 1st year parents and started a Friday morning Walk and Talk group (open to all parents). I am currently running a ‘Basics in Computer Course’ facilitated by a tutor from KWETB. This take place on Monday mornings between 11:30-13:00. I have set up a Foroige Youth Group that meets after school on Tuesdays and have been working with KYS and a group of TY students to represent the school at Comhairle na nOg. I have also made home visits which are a vital part of my role.
During this academic year I have various events and courses running which I would like to draw your attention to.
Christmas wreath arranging with Olivia Byrne (Beth Ollie Creations) on Wednesday 28th November, Wednesday 5th December and Friday 7th December from 11:10-13:10. This three-day course is free for parents, guardians and grandparents of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. Places are limited and are filling up fast.
Christmas chocolate biscuit pudding decorating. Join Mary McCrann on Friday 7th December from 9 - 11 to see how she makes and decorates her delicious chocolate pudding. Mary’s mouth-watering chocolate biscuit cake is renowned. This chocolate biscuit pudding decorating class is for one morning only, Friday 7th December from 9 - 11. This course is free for parents, guardians and grandparents of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. Places are limited and are filling up fast.
One Book, One Year Rathangan. (December - February) Run in conjunction with Rathangan Community Library. This year’s book is Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. TY students are reading this book and we would love parents and guardians to read it and come into our School Reading Room to discuss the book at the Book Club in February. There are a limited number of books available in the school and Rathangan Community Library.
Parents Plus This free parenting course is open to all parents and grandparents of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. Priority will be given to 3rd year parents. The course is being facilitated by Caroline Morris (Foroige) on Friday mornings in Rathangan Community Library. The dates are as follows: (all Friday mornings),

Safe Talk Tuesday 5th February 9:15 - 1pm
SafeTALK 'suicide alertness for everyone' is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Participants learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide in only a few hours. SafeTALK Following a SafeTALK workshop you will be more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide. This certified course is free to all parents, grandparents and guardians of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain.
Walk and Talk every Friday morning meeting at 9:30 at the school reception. Toddlers in buggies welcome.
We are currently running a basic computer training course in school on Mondays from 9:30-1pm for parents, grandparents or guardians of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain. There is still some limited availability.
Junior Cycle Maths Some parents have expressed an interest in undertaking a maths course that prepares them to help their children through Junior Cycle maths (1st-3rd Year). This free course is open to all parents and grandparents of students in Ardscoil Rath Iomghain.
