An eye to the future

  1. Creative Rathangan is hosting a Seminar and Workshops on Saturday November 25th, 2017, in Rathangan Community Library. Registration. Tea/Coffee 9.30 -10.00am.
    Entitled ‘An Eye to the Future’ – the Seminar will feature contributions and workshops with Film-maker and Folklorist Michael Fortune, and Rosie Lynch, Callan Workhouse Union.
    Michael Fortune works predominantly in film and photography exploring and celebrating the nuances of identity, place, ritua...l and story. In his Seminar presentation - Collecting Songs and Tales - Michael will outline his approach to gathering Folklore, Oral History and Song, and present some examples of his work. In his Workshop – An Introduction to Collecting Oral Material – Michael will deal with the practicalities of gathering/recording material and will stress the importance of a collaborative approach to working with groups and communities.
    Rosie Lynch is Curator, Callan Workhouse Union, a developing facility and commissioning agency for visual art, design, architecture research and projects in Callan, Co Kilkenny. Rosie’s work will be of particular interest to communities, villages and towns who have been left behind and appear to be living in the shadow of larger urban centres. Her Seminar presentation will focus on work that explores the future of rural towns through projects such as “Meet You at the Green?” and “Bring Your Own Chair.” Her Workshop explores the role of the arts in reimagining how we live in and occupy spaces.
