New Bus Service for Rathangan
Kildare Local Transport Link has announced plans for a new daily bus service from Rathangan which will serve Kildare Town, Newbridge and Naas. The new service which commences on 5th September 2016 is targeted primarily at anyone who is planning to attend further education and training courses including PLC courses in Newbridge and other courses funded by organisations like County Kildare LEADER Partnership and Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board. A lack of transport has been cited as one of the major obstacles for people in Rathangan to pursue further education and employment and it is hoped that the take up on this new service will see it become a permanent arrangement. In announcing the new service Mr. Pat Leogue Social Inclusion Manager with County Kildare LEADER Partnership outlined how the service has come about, “this service has been established as a result of feedback received from people living in Rathangan and also from the various agencies and organisations who work with individuals and families in the area”. “We hope that more people from the Rathangan area get the opportunity to go to training and employment with the help of this bus service” added Mr. Leogue. Manager of Kildare Local Transport Link John Dowling also called for local support for the new service, “With funding from the National Transport Authority we can provide these services but we need the support of the local community to use the bus and to ensure that those who need the service are encouraged to avail of it”. Mr. Dowling also encouraged local people to contact Kildare Local Transport Link if there are any modifications on the service needed. “We operate on a flexible route basis which means that we don’t operate from fixed pick up points and we can vary our route to pick up passengers along the way” added Mr. Dowling. The bus will service courses in Kildare Town, Newbridge and Naas and it is intended to leave Rathangan at approximately 8.00 a.m. and return to Rathangan by 5 p.m. on a daily basis Monday to Friday. Where courses finish on Friday at lunchtime an additional return service is also planned to arrive back in Rathangan by 2 p.m. The fare for the new service will be €5 return per day and trainees on some approved courses receive a travel allowance which will be accepted on the service. If you wish to book a place on the proposed bus service or make any further enquiries please email John Dowling at kildareSD.firstname.lastname@example.org or call 087 7523523.
