Oldcastle Post Primary captured the North Leinster Junior C Football championship with a three point win over Rathangan of Kildare at Dunganny, Meath Centre of Excellence.

Oldcastle opted to play with wind advantage in the opening half but failed to convert some very scoreable chances, hitting the crossbar on two occasions. The sides were level at the break Oldcastle 0-8 Rathangan 1-5. The Meath-Cavan border school were 0-2 to 0-0 up after five minutes with scores from Joe Blake and Adam Reihill. Mountnugent lad Rehill finished the half with another four points. Corner forward Jimmy Hyland was giving the Oldcastle defence all sorts of problems. Hyland kicked four first half points while Cian O'Neill struck for the goal.

Darragh Malone put the Kildare boys ahead in the opening minute of the second half but Reihill and Sean Reilly put the winners back in front with fine scores. Rathangan were reduced to 14 players when centre back Tommy Ryan was red carded by referee Conor Dourneen. Withn ten minutes left on the clock Rathangan led 1-9 to 0-11. Oldcastle then enjoyed their best period of the game. Jason Scully netted, Rehill pointed and CJ Healy pounced on a Rathangan mistake to open up a six point gap. Hyland netted for the Kildare school in the final minutes but it was St. Olivers who held on for the win.

After the game Tom O'Donnell presented the North Leinster Junior C FC Shield to St Olivers' captain Jason Scully. In his acceptance speech the Olivers captain dedicated the win to the late Ricky McDermott who died tragically last year.
